I'd like a "1" to appear above 1-measure rests like this:
.
.
I can set multimeasure rest options to start numbering at 1 and use symbols for less that two measures.
.
.
but then the one-measure rest is the size of other multimeasure rests
.
.
If I set the measure width narrower, that will affect all multimeasure rests. I really want the 1's narrower than the others. I guess I can instead use an expression for the 1's (which I did above), but then I need to seek them out individually, and might miss one. Do I need to use JW Lua to get what I want?

It's just a convention some publishers use, marginally helpful for the player, I suppose. I thought I'd try it. John Ruggero: I seem to recall a conversation long ago about this. Thoughts?
Thanks, Peter, for the JW suggestion. I'll give it a try, but my memory is that it redistributes what's in the system according to length of rest. If the one-measure rest was by itself, I suspect it would be left alone (too wide).

It's been done by many publishers for a very long time as a courtesy to the player since it keeps all the rest measures uniform so the player doesn't overlook a single measure rest in, for example, the middle of a group of several multi-measure rests in succession.
