No playback sound.

I've tried all the steps in the user manual Play thru Midi and thru Audio Units.

Not sure what else to check or could be the problem?

I'm on Windows but did you try VST Banks and Effects to see if the volume is turned up. For some reason on WIndows machines Finale turns the volume to zero sometimes. Why? I have no idea. Also, try Reassign Playback Sounds. All in the MIDI/Audio tool drop down.

If you have the trial version, the Garritan sounds are not available (select in the Midi/audio menu : Playback via midi, the playback via AudioUnits is not available).
Midi Audio menu -> Device Setup -> Midi/internal Speaker Setup. In Playback to, Select SmartMusicSoftSynth
In the ScoreManager, select SmartMusicSoftSynth, the sounds and midi channels.

If you go MIDI/Audio > Play Finale Through Audio Units > Audio Units Banks & Effects

There are three columns. In the right column is the volume turned up?

Also there is a Master Volume at the bottom.

Recently I have had those volume controls drop down to zero for whatever reason, so give it a look.

I use musescore with any issues so i know sound is good on my imac

Maybe ask MakeMusic for help?

On my system, MIDI playback doesn't work, but I can play Softsynth through VST, yet it doesn't involve a separate player. Very confusing. A dog's breakfast.

How can I justify spending this kind of $$$ on a product that is so difficult to setup? Default audio should work out of the box for either platform.
