Graphic and finale - transparency
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
Hi Forum,
Is it possible to incorporate graphic / drawings into finale and make the picture (pdf/jpeg) transparent thus being able to write score and merge these two expressions?
I dont know how to upload a screen dump of the intention.
add.
is it possible to make the importe grafik file/picture transparent, thus being able to see the page beneath with the akkolades?

It _is_ possible, I did a transparent graphic with GIMP and imported it into Finale. See this thread: https://finaleforum.superflexible.net/v ... 345#p29345

EPS should work, if the file has no background.
Make sure you tick the "Allow Transparency" option in the Graphics Export dialog.
I have transparent EPS graphics in Finale. Of course, they cause F26 to crash when I print, but you can't have everything.

I tried it with Allow transparency and with Settings/Background/Manuscript texture as both a graphics file and a solid color, and got an opaque background both ways.
I have had problems with EPS, too. You can use PDF instead and get the same vector graphics. (No luck with transparent PDF, either).

OP has F27. As you may remember, MM yanked EPS support from F27.
That's unless the OP only meant to incorporate a transparent EPS file into Finale but generate a transparent output format from Finale other than EPS.
However, the OP mentions jpeg as an output format. Jpeg does not support transparency.

You used to be able to use a transparent EPS file as a graphic, but that's no longer the case. You can make transparent GIF and PNG files, but the GIF usually have a really low quality when printing. I typically use transparent PNG files if I want to insert some sort of graphic into my Finale files.

PDF can also be used with a white background:
...or in a transparent version:
The problem is that when imported into Finale then the program interprets it as grayscale image and turns it into a raster. This makes the vector format of the PDF completely meaningless.
Here is a comparison screenshot of the Finale working file along with the same and overlaid transparent PDF-clone.
In order to be able to see the details I'm talking about, I advise you to open the image in a new browser tab at 100% zoom.
