Shortening lyric lines

Hello,

I've got some lyrics across tied notes, naturally Finale extends a line from the text (as it should).
However, my tie is broken and I have another note that I don't want the line extended under.
Instead I have text instructions for that note. However, Finale just automatically extended the line.
How can I shorten the text line to end at the (first tied) note I intended it to?

There's gotta be a way.

I insert a hidden grace rest to stop a runaway word extension. (There are other ways, but that's the one I use.)

And, once your document is formatted the way you like, you can click on the extension and drag its endpoint to where you want it. If the measure is widened or compressed, you may need to redo the drag.

But if you use the hidden grace rest, it will adjust automatically.

Perotinus, do you do that w/ the lyric tool?

Yes. But I think all you have to do is click on the extension, perhaps with the lyric tool or the selection tool selected, and the handle will appear.

In the Lyric menu, there is a command “Edit Word Extensions.” It’s in the lyrics window, as well.
