Does a hidden staff play back midi if desired?
I need that since I don't get the desired playback style from my VI:s. I have some staccato notes followed by a sfz that shall be sustained. Therefore I need to have two staves, one for the sfz whose sound will disappear too early complemented by a sustained note. I only want to display the total length of the "main note" in the "main staff" but need two staves to accomplish this.

My experience is that if a staff is hidden with the staff style "Force Hide Staff (Cutaway)", with or without Human Playback active, it remains audible (Midi or Audio Units/VST).

Can't find it. Is that a third party plugin which is not installed by Finale?

The plug-in is here: http://finaletips.nu/index.php/download
but michelp's idea of devoting an entire staff to it might be easier. Force Hide Staff (Collapse) might be better than Cutaway.

I've tried the Collapse option earlier, it didn't work. Haven't had time yet to try the Cutaway option but I don't want it to look like that.

Here's a file with "Collapse" applied to the second staff and it still plays back. I'm not sure why it's not working for you. It's possible that they broke something since my version, but unlikely.

Yes, it's working here as well. I need to try it again with my score then.
A question about your example: I'm unable to "unhide" the staff since "Force hide staff" is unchecked for staff 2. Did you use the Edit Staff Attributes?

I notice that the second staff is marked as [Hidden] in the Score Manager. What's the trick to make it visible?

Staff Tool.
Staff menu > Show Staff Styles (select this option)
Scroll View.
You can see the hidden staff in Scroll View, and clear the staff style that hides the staff (I would use the context menu to clear the staff style).
