How to add more than one note to staff

I'm trying to add additional notes to the staff but it won't let me. Example - I have 4/4 bar and have a whole note. I need to add more notes on top of the whole note (polyphony) but it's not letting me do it. Is there a way to use Simple Entry to correct this issue?

Sounds like you need another layer for the other notes. Do you need help with layers?
