Changing transparancy of notes
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
Elementary band teacher here who occasionally uses finale for simple notation.
Is there a way to change the transparency of notes? I've had success teaching my beginners to read music when I use a light gray marker to handwrite music on staff paper so they can see the staff through the notes. I'm trying to recreate this on Finale. Is it possible?
Thanks!

You can hide the notes and rests, and they will appear as shaded. You can control the transparency in Preferences > View > Hidden Object Shading. They won't print, but you can take a screen shot, and print that.
If I misunderstand, please elaborate!

This is almost what I need. The gray/shaded notes are great, but the staff line is behind the note. The students I use this technique with need to see the staff line though the note. And if a screenshot is my only option I think I may be sticking with handwritten.
Thank you!

You mean your students can't tell that a line that starts on one side of the note, and reappears on the other side, is there, behind the note? Can you explain why?
Can you post a picture of what you want to see?

That's exactly what I'm saying. They are a group of special need students who get as many accommodations as they need in order to be successful in my class.
I need them to see something like this:
If you use Alpha Notes and, as miker suggested, hide notes and control the transparency, you can get something like this:
Of course you might not want the letters, but you do get (some of) the line through the notes.
