Hello

I am writing a full score for orchestra and my usual work flow is to work on the individual parts on a separate file and then copy paste it to the full score. For example i am working on the string section. I was able to work on Violin 1 and Violin 2 separately and was able to copy past the music onto the whole score successfully.

Now when I am working on Violas (alto clef) , after I copy and paste the finished music to the full score, the notes appear transposed. and to make it worse, even the notes of the Violins change as well. This appears very disruptive and annoying.

Can anyone help me how I can rectify this ? am i missing something as to why this is happening ?

Thank you
JD

Welcome to the forum!

Your description if the problem is a bit vague.

At what interval are the notes transposed?

Without more info I can only guess.

My first guess is that the note are transposed by an octave.

Take a good look in
Preferences - Edit

Is the option
Respect Instrument Ranges when Copying or Changing Instruments
selected or de-selected?

Try de-selecting the option.
Could not hurt to try it.

Here's a somewhat related question I've never been abe to find an answer to - when copying and pasting to different staves/instruments (Respect Instrument Ranges when Copying or Changing Instruments is always de-selected), very often (occasionally?) the rests (not the notes) are displaced in the new staff (maybe also when copying to different clefs, can't think of the specific examples now). Easy to fix, but why does this happen and is there a setting I'm unaware of?

joslinmusic, make sure the key signatures match. If not, what you describe is indeed possible.

mmike, do you mean the rests are displaced vertically? That is indeed odd. Have the target rests had their positions altered before the copy?

yes, to a highr position

not that I am aware of, I doubt it. I'd never alter the vertical position of a rest (unless to fix it, as in the case described)
I have now been trying to re-create this specifically, but can't ...
It might happen when I work with older files, originally created in earlier versions?
