Finale for Windows 26.3 is somewhat dysfunctional when triplets occur in two voices on the same staff. There are so many examples of arithmetic miscalculation that they're hardly worth mentioning -- a few minutes ago I was trying to enter a 3 8th-note triplet and after placing the first note, instead of filling out the triplet with eighth rests as it often does, Finale completed the triplet with a half rest. Anyway, one expects arithmetic to fail in Finale for WIndows, but just now I discovered that slurring also fails in voice two if triplets are in voice 1.

Yes, the computer was rebooted. Yes, no other software was running. Yes, Voice 2 was selected. Ready for prime time?

I guess I don't understand. This is what I got in a default document. No changes made or needed.

If not what you ask, I apologize. Could you post a handwritten picture of what you want?

How are you trying to make the slur? Are you double-clicking on the first note or click-dragging? If one doesn't work, try the other.

From your picture, though, it sure looks like you were in layer 1 instead of 2.

Another thing to try would be to select Show Active Layer only.

You have the first and second G 'tied' together and you want the first G and the first or second E to have a slur? Are you sure you are not confusing "layer 1 and 2" with "voice 1 and 2"? They don't work the same way. I would be doing this in layers not voices.

It looks like from your examples that Finale is doing exactly what you told it to.

Voice 2 would not be colored red.

To me, when notating keyboard music layers and voices amount to the same thing. Layer is a Finale concept. Voice is a musical concept. I do dumb things, but I was definitely in layer 2 and with the smart shape tool set to slurs I double clicked the first note to create the incorrect slur. See also my other question with images showing how Finale for Windows completes an eighth note triplet with a half rest or a sixteenth rest or any other kind of rest that indicates it doesn't know the location in memory it needs to use to do the calculation correctly.

Layers and voices are both imprecise terms. For example, what Finale calls layers, SmartScore calls voices. And using Speedy Entry (which I don't) layers within Finale can also be separated into voices.

Computers are binary. Triplets aren't. Rather than complaining about how some triplets may be wrong, when you enter them incorrectly, appreciate the ones it does properly, in spite of you.

Yes, I know I'm being snarky, but you have put up multiple posts, indicating that your Finale skills need quite a bit of help.

A tip: try clicking below the notes, in the area of layer 2.
