Windows 10 Finale 2014.5

Stem directions in some parts are all over the place, and I can't figure out why. See measure 1 in the clarinet.

Looks like the wrong stem direction is limited to that fifth motive with the mordants. Did you copy and paste that figure? I don't know how to fix except manually.

I did copy it, from a very old document.

I have noticed that occasionally, too. I don't know why it happens. One would think Finale would correct stem direction automatically but it doesn't. Layer 2 can affect stem direction.
You are on your own to fix it. Perhaps others will come up with a, why.

So, it gets worse / more annoying:

Motet, I've now attempted to correct the problem by rewriting that opening bar in a different instrument, copying it in, adding back in the articulations, and then copying that to the appropriate other measures. This solves the problem... for a while. Then when I try to play back, the program will crash. When I recover the document, that same flipped stem thing reappears. And the program keeps crashing.

i'm assuming I'm going to have to export it as an XML and reimport it and add back in all the articulations and phrasings... unless someone has a better idea?

Rather than rewriting, in Speedy entry put the cursor on the note and press L to flip the stem.

or drag select a region to include them all (or several measures, where necessary or useful) go to > JW Change Plug-in > Stems > Mode > Direction > Up > Apply, which would do it all at once

Or Utilties/Stem direction/Up (or Down, as appropriate). Oddly, "default direction" doesn't work on this file, neither Finale's or Jari's version.
