stop making room for accidentals in other parts?

Because the notes should line up, vertically. If one staff requires extra space for the accidentals, then that spacing needs to be followed. You may not like it, but that’s the way it is.

As Mike said, this is expected behavior in well engraved music.
That being said, I sometimes fix things like this manually, using the Note Position Tool on the Special Tools palette. I do it very sparingly, only then the example is particularly obnoxious and there are very few instances. Another way to fix it is to loosen the spacing so there are less measures per system - wider measures will have more room for the spacing to even out.
My advice - finish the input of the score, arrange the page layout, and decide whether you want to fix a few spots.

I had the idea in my head that professionally-engraved scores wouldn't exhibit this behavior... but I checked and quickly discovered I was wrong! So I should probably let it go. Glad that there's the option to manually adjust individual notes but maybe not worth the trouble.

In a really busy score with lots of grace notes and hemidemisemiquavers etc., and wanting 2 bars per system, I occasionally resorted to editing the spacing using the note spacing tool to fix collisions, however I was a little taken aback when I noticed that upon extraction (yes, I'm an extractor), individual parts retained the tool's edits even after applying fresh music spacing. The solution was to using the note spacing tool to delete the note spacing tool edits. I wonder if there is a quick way of removing note spacing tool edits (because applying music spacing doesn't seem to do that)?

What are the Music Spacing settings the Finale document? (Document menu > Document Options - Music Spacing)Hector Pascal wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 12:39 am… I wonder if there is a quick way of removing note spacing tool edits (because applying music spacing doesn't seem to do that)? …
I suspect that the culprit is the setting for Manual Positioning.
Try setting
Manual Positioning
to
Clear
and see whether that helps.

Thanks very much, Peter. I checked in the Document Options>Music Spacing and it is set to "Ignore". I guess that's the default, as I don't remember finger poking that! Anyway, I'll remember that screen when it happens next time and try the "clear" option. Cheers and thanks again,
