Note shape glitch

I want to make some of the notes have an "x" for a notehead, but I am only able to make one and then the next one won't work until I close the file and re-open it. This is extremely frustrating and is a real time waster! Help!

It's possible that when you change the notehead, the screen doesn't redraw to show the change. Press Command/D to manually redraw. Otherwise, post a sample file so someone can take a look.
