I need to change the page size and a few notes for a *.mus file created with Finale 2006a. When I open this file with Finale 27.2.0.144, the scroll view looks like this:

JPG.

The numbers in the bar appear to be measure numbers, but I can't seem to do anything with them using the mouse.

How can I "un-scrunch" this Scroll View so that it looks normal?

Thanks!

Have you tried Update Layout?

Your measure widths seem to be at a strange setting. Select all (Ctrl-A) > respace the music with Ctrl-4 or -5 (Utilities > Music Spacing). That shoukd do it. Or post your file here for examination by someone.

Thanks for the replies. Update Layout had no effect on Scroll View. Likewise, Respace Music made no difference. Attaching the original 2006a file:

and the new file in which I've already changed the page size in Page View:

You've somehow copied layer 1 into layer 3 and layer 2 into layer 4, and the music spacing settings are messed up. I cleared layers 3 and 4 and loaded the medium spacing library and things are better. The lyrics are still too crowded in scroll view for some reason.

Thanks, motet. The layer copying is deliberate. When working with hymns and the like, I copy 1 to 3 and 2 to 4, so that I can map 1 and 2 to Choral Aahs, and 3 and 4 to organ sounds. This facilitates hearing playback that more resembles what I hope the piece will actually sound like.

I'll try removing the notes of 3 and 4. Since this is a hymn of only 8 measures, I may resort to just starting over from scratch. In the meantime, maybe someone else will recognize the Scroll View problem. I gather this is not something others commonly see.

I believe I pointed out the problem.

the Scroll View problem
Maybe I misunderstand the question, but according to this (and your original post) it seems that your layers, notes, lyrics and page layout are what you want (except for having changed the paper size on the two files you attached).
If you are only concerned with the crunched up scroll view, select All (while in Scroll View) >right-click > Edit Measure Attributes > select Change Width > enter a larger number. I have used 7.0 in the attached examples and your scroll view looks fine (to me anyway ...). Do NOT use the respace command - this makes it revert to the crunched view (why? beats me). And by the way, none of this changes or affects your page view.

The spacing options also uncheck most collisions, which is why I suggested reloading the spacing library.

mmike:

You were right -- my only concern was clearing up the crunch in Scroll View. Edit Measure Attributes > Change Width worked great -- thanks! I was able to change a few notes as intended originally. For every change, Finale wanted to crunch again, but I was able to fix it every time with Change Width. Something wants to snap back to a small default measure width. If I find out what that is, I'll post the info here.

Thanks again to all of you for your help!

The problem appears to be a wrong setting in document options.
Music Spacing shows:

Minimum Measure Width at 15.875
Maximum Measure Width at 0.42333 (!)
Min Distance betw Items 0.00882
Min Dist betw Notes with ties 0

Obviously the ("minimal") Maximum is creating the crunched up measures. You can play around with this, but normally the settings are something lke this:

Minimum Measure Width at 3.175
Maximum Measure Width at 15.875
Min Distance betw Items 0.10583
Min Dist betw Notes with ties 0.42333

Change these settings, save your file and you should be able to work normally.

Reload a spacing library.
