I'm creating a medley out of several songs that I've charted out. I want to copy say the first half of a chart into this new medley including any multimeasure rests I've created. When I click/drag the part in, it splits the multimeasure rest up and I have to reformat them. Also it doesn't keep the page layout - like how many measures I've placed on a line, etc.

Is there a way around this or what am I doing wrong?

After you copy the music into the new file, select all then right click with the Selection Tool on the staff and pick Multimeasure Rests > Create and that will take care of all of them. There is no way to copy the measure layout the I'm aware of.

There's a plug-in called JW Copy Part Layout but I don't know exactly what it does.

It copies the layout from, say, Trumpet 1 to Trumpet 2, 3 and/or 4. Works on linked parts only.

Back in pen-and-ink copying days, they used to make a "master" Trumpet part, containing only bar lines, rehearsal letters, tempo text, MM rests and music that was common to all parts. The master was then duplicated, then each of the parts was completed. Saved a lot of time.
