I have a piece of music for flute and string orchestra in two movements. The first movement is in 4/4 time; the second is in 6/8 beginning with an eighth note pickup. I have tried to create a pickup bar at the beginning of the second movement and have followed the instructions in the manual exactly, but I can't get rid of the dotted quarter and quarter rests at the beginning of the bar. I only want the eighth note. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Unfortunately, my file is too large to attach. Many thanks for any help you can give me.

Select that short measure, and Edit Time Signature. In the next dialogue, set the time signature to whatever is needed (1/4, 3/8, whatever.) Make sure you select the correct measure. Click more options, and choose to display your “main” time signature. OK.

Thank you so much. It worked! This is exactly what I did before but I was initially put off by the fact that the notes that were in the bar disappeared and were replaced by a dotted quarter rest with an enormous space after it. I figured I'd done something wrong. This time, after following your instructions I deleted the quarter rest, reinput the eighth note I wanted (in all the parts) and the huge space disappeared of its own accord. Many thanks again for your help!

Shouldn't the pick-up measure be 1/8, not 3/8?

Mea culpa. I didn’t read the post carefully enough, so my mention of possibilities was facetious.
