Not sure this is an appropriate forum. Let me know if somewhere else is more appropriate. I downloaded a file from Finale Showcase Wind Ensemble section in 2013 that's been sitting around ever since. I now have a band possibly interested in playing the piece but will only do so if 1) I can get permission from the composer, and 2) I can background information on the composer to share with the audience. I looked for him on Musescore without success. I have googled the name included on the score without success. I can't find anything on youtube. Does anyone have suggestions on what else I can do?

As far as I know you would not need permission to perform the work if it is readily available. There seems to be a misunderstanding around this; I tell my colleagues they can perform my works whenever they want but still they sometimes ask me for permission. I do like it when they tell me of a performance of one of my works though.

If you tell us the composer's name and the work's title someone here may know them.

Is there a "circle C" copyright notice on the score? If not, just credit the composer on the score, parts and concert program and perform the work. If there is, don't mess with it.

The piece was titled: Fantasie Espagnol (I Wonder Why the Stormy Coast Rejoices...)
Composer/Arranger: Scott Douglas

The bottom of the first page has the word Copyright, but no person is named. It's just the Finale default.

Regarding use of the piece: The Band produces a very nice program booklet for concerts. For each piece this includes background information on the music and the composer. It would look very strange not to have it for one piece. If I can't get this information, another piece will be selected. That's just the way it is.

So if anyone knows who Scott Douglas is and how I can contact him, I would be grateful. Thank you.

There is also an arrangement credited to a Scott Douglas here:

As he is on 'ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard's global self-publishing community' maybe you could email them at :

I understand where you're coming from, but this band's sole purpose is to raise money to support young musicians in the area. If we did anything the least bit shady, it would not set the kind of example we strive for.

My comment was with tongue very firmly in cheek. I wouldn't do that for real!
