In the attached file, I am able to move fingering numbers up & down
gradually, but on the original file they jump to undesirable positions.
What tool do I use to make them move gradually? Thanks.

So it works in the sample you posted, but in another file it doesn't?
Try double-clicking one of the fingering numbers in the misbehaving file to open the Articulation Designer. Make sure the settings in the other file are the same as in the one you posted, notable the "Distance from entry" number (0.05556).

Here's what I found, somewhat by accident. The numbers jump. Then I removed the slurs, then I can adjust the numbers, then put back the slurs with slight re-positioning. Re your ""Distance from entry" suggestion, that didn't solve it, because the distance numbers were the same. Thank you for your help though. See attached.

I tried your attachment and the finger numbers behaved normally. They could be adjusted as desired and they stayed put after adjustment with or without the slur.

OK, interesting. The only thing that worked for me, so far, is to remove the slur, then reposition the fingering, then re-insert the slur. Similar to other things in life.

They don't jump for me, either, but I have an older version. Isn't there a recent feature to avoid collisions of articulations (e.g. accents) and slurs? Perhaps your fingerings are included in that; if so, there must be a way to exempt them from that.
