Is there an efficient way to copy-selected or delete-selected across a region that converts selected notes (maybe selected beats) to rests? In the attached sample, staff #2 beats 1 and 4 retain the notes of staff #1, and the other beats are replaced by rests. The Delete-Selected command could be improved to handle this. Maybe there is a plug-in I don't know of?

If I understand your question, JW Change will switch all notes to rests.

Thank you Bill Stevens, that is exactly what I needed. It took me a moment to figure out filtering to get it right. FTR:

JW Change > Note Entries
Note/Rest > Rest
Filters > Entries: On Beats, check Opposite
Apply

I was also interested in eliminating only the notes at beats 2 and 5 in order to get a horsey rhythm. I don't see a direct approach for this, but I found a roundabout way:

Attach an articulation to beats 2 & 5 in the 1st measure, like staccato, use Finale's Select-copy filter to mass-copy these articulations to the selected region, then back to JW:

Durations or Attachments > Any Articulation > Apply
