I got Finale 27 a couple of years ago, when it first came out. After a month or so the system would occasionally just close down for no reason so I tried to make sure that my files would be automatically saved. I went to the settings and changed the autosave setting so that it would save every five minutes. From then onwards, every now and then, I started to get the message: 'The document xxx xxx could not be autosaved. The file does not exist.'
I just click 'Ok' and continue and when I come to save the file at the end I don't seem to have any problems. However it's slightly worrying to keep getting this message and it suggests to me that there is a problem there somewhere. I imagine that I would become aware of this if I had a sudden system crash and could not recover the file.
Does anyone have any idea what this is caused by? How can a file I'm working on not exist?

Windows? It might be because of the temp file and not the file you have open. Make sure Finale has a good path to the temp file location in the preferences. I think it best to make it a seperate folder all by itself and one Windows will not touch. If this isn't your issue it is still best to set Finale up that way.

Maybe you need to do one manual save before autosave kicks in?

Mac, the signature says. However, the Mac has the same problem with using the system temp directory.ebiggs1 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 28, 2023 3:33 pmWindows? Autosave (in any program) is nothing but a problem for me. I'm in the habit of manually saving often. With time, it becomes automatic, so to speak.

I've never had a problem. I made my own Finale temporary directory and have Finale's temp files and autosave files put there.
This should probably be in a sticky thread, but Finale's default doesn't handle temporary files well, PC or Mac.

Nope, that's not it. I did a trial run, and my document Autosaved perfectly in default location without my agency within the time period I specified. But I am using 27.3, so may not be equivalent.AnneMillington wrote: ↑Sat Jan 28, 2023 4:27 pmMaybe you need to do one manual save before autosave kicks in?
