Select "bracket full duration" in tuplet definition window.

You could also (in Speedy Entry) use the / key or apply the Patterson Plugins (the full version if you have it) to select the entire thing and beam it.

Thanks for your reply, but in Tuplet Definition it is only possible to put the bracket for full duration.
It does not affect the beaming.

the /-key in Speedy Entry has no effect on this case when tuplet starts or ends with a rest.
The Patterson Plugins will probably do it, but I do not have the full version.
Well, this is only a minor issue but it would be nice to solve it.

Here are two “variations on the theme”, both created in Finale v27.

I suppose that example A is more correct, with a secondary beam on the 16th rest.

But if you are trying to reproduce the manuscript accurately, then B must the solution.

I did this by entering a 16th note in place of the 16th rest.
Then, I replaced the notehead character with the 16th rest character.

With the Special Tools Tool I modified the stem, and the notehead position.

You can see what I did, if you examine my attached Finale document.

Peter,
That seems an intelligent trick. Thanks.

I did that by entering the triplet as you did.
"Beams over rests" is checked. And I get this:
triplet 1.jpg
With /-key on the eight note, I get this:
triplet 2.jpg
and this is what you wanted, right?

Beaming over rests in general, not just in tuplets,

When activating the "extend beam over rests" in Document - Document options - Beams, at first it beams over all rests, but it also activates the "/"-key in Speedy Entry Tool.

This allows the "beaming over rests" very well, where it is needed. Also in tuplets

The score has to be checked of unwanted beamings, though, since this is works globally.
