Hi all,

I have a soprano 2 part in a choral score, which divides into two parts on p. 7. At that point I've bracketed two staves together, and am calling the group S2. But the original "S2" (single staff name) continues to show up on every system, like this:

S2 split.JPG

Is there a way to force-hide the single staff name not globally, but just from here to the end?

Many thanks for any advice.

You can make a staff style to hide the staff name and apply it where needed. Uncheck "Staff name in score" and "Staff name in parts".

Thanks, Motet! I did find that dialogue, but it removes the single staff name everywhere -- including on the first seven pages where I would like to include it.

Is there a way to make a staff name appear on some systems and not others? Ideally, I'd like this first:

S2 single.JPG
S2 single.JPG (13.31 KiB) Viewed 574 times

And then this, with only the group name, after the divisi begins:

S2 divisi.jpg
S2 divisi.jpg (12.47 KiB) Viewed 574 times

Another approach would be to leave the group unnamed and just drag the single staff name down when the divisi begins -- but only if there's a way to drag names selectively rather than globally. Any thoughts?

My guess is that you did not find the Staff Styles window, but rather the Staff Attributes window.

The difference is that the Staff Attributes window sets the “global” attributes (= for all the measures in the entire document), whereas a Staff Style can be applied “locally” (= only where needed).

Pick Define Staff Styles in the Staff tool menu, click New in the ensuing dialog, and do what you see below. After doing this, then select the staff from the start of your divisi to the end, then pick Apply Staff Style from the menu,

Beautiful, that did it!

Many thanks to you both; I've learned a powerful new tool.
