Hello!
I was looking to create trills along with floating note heads in parenthesis to be really clear as to what I want. However, I'm having trouble. I've read the finale page and searched around but can't find anything helpful. I've tried using special tools and alt codes and I'm not sure what to do. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

I suppose that the issue here is not the trill itself, but rather the “floating notehead in parenthesis” - right?
1) I would use the Shape Designer to create the {notehead in parenthesis}.
The finished shape can be used as a shape expression or as a shape articulation.
2) In case the {notehead in parenthesis} should be on ledger lines, I would create a shape with ledger lines separately.
Good to know when creating the ledger lines:
The vertical distance should be 6pt.
