Exactly. It is not being incorporated into Finale. Not exactly an embrace but more like a playful wink. And honestly, PL is mostly useful for cleaning up collisions and page layout (but still requires some user tweaking in my experience). Stuff like JW and Patterson are helpful to me as I notate my compositions. Different plugins serve different functions.

"Embracing" was your choice of words - not mine or apparently some others. I saw this for what it obviously was - an announcement of the latest version of this gizmo. It was not an endorsement (better term) as companies usually do not endorse third party products over which they have no developmental control.

The elephant in the room you can't see, is this announcement came on Finale's official blog. I don't believe just anyone can comment on there!

Agreed. All I read is that Finale may be optimized to work better with someone else's $100 product.

I think we all know what "embrace" means but certainly appreciate having my memory jogged by the dictionary definition just so we are all on the same page. BTW, the definition of "condescending" is "having or showing a feeling of patronizing superiority."

As best I can tell, Finale has given a shout-out to Perfect Layout and a plug for the product. Until it's included, standard, at no increased price within Finale, I'll hold on it being "embraced." The dictionary definition of "endorsement" is "an act of giving one's public approval or support to someone or something."

To be clear, I think Perfect Layout is a great thing. But MakeMusic hasn't "finally" embraced ("availed themselves of") PL. They have recommended it, but otherwise things are the same.

I would love a trial copy where I can play with all the settings. Since I am a publisher it would be too big an expenditure if I'm not sure.

Regrettably, there is no demo as I understand it. You send Jan up to two scores that he then uses to process with PL and shows you the end results. I found it very useful for old scores of mine (except those that had some complexities like complex time signatures [4/4+3/4 etc] since they have a lot of markings, cresc/decr, etc. My more recent works, probably not as critical but still can be helpful. And Jan is amazingly responsive, which I greatly appreciate. But YMMV; as mentioned, this doesn't help with those tasks related to note entry (unlike JW, Patterson, TGT), but is for avoiding collisions without manual input. Although some user input is still likely needed after the fact.

In my case, I like things to look a certain way, so I would need to experiment to see if I could achieve that.

Perfect Layout is a big time saver. There are a lot of tweaks, what I see obviously as an advantage which corresponds with Finale's principles - to have all the options to make the score personalised and tweaked to the highest level. I highly recommend Perfect Layout to all, who want to save the time and have the layout perfect.
