I can't figure out how to put the staff names. So instead
of it appearing as [staff 1] it should appear as "piano"
or whatever. Thanks. See attached.

In the Score Manager you'll see that the instrument is Piano (no staff name). Change it to Piano. You might have to hide the names in brackets.

Is this what you want? (attached). If so, use the Staff tool -> right-click on the staff handle -> select Edit full staff name -> type in the instrument name -> drag the name down to the middle of the brace.

Yes, thanks much. I'll try to implement it.

Yes it looks correct but I don't fully understand how to get there.
I followed your direction, typed in instrument name, but I don't understand when you say
"drag the name down to the middle of the brace."

Once you type in the instrument name and click OK, it will appear just left of the treble clef. But for piano, you want the name to appear in the middle of the brace, between the G clef and F clef. Mouse drag the handle down to the location. If you have the Clef tool selected, the handle of instrument name appears. I prefer to click on the handle once to select it then use the arrow keys on my keyboard to nudge it into place with precision. If you still need more help, just holler. I'll do my best to help.

In my piece, the piano part is only in the treble clef. Therefore I have no bass clef. (I'm not sure if the orchestra librarian would have a problem with that.) If there is only the treble clef, how would you advise?

In my piece, the piano part is only in the treble clef.
Go to the Score Manager, click on the Piano Staff in the instrument list and fill in the full and abbreviated staff names.

In your file the piano staves are already united as a group. In that case just right-click (Windows) on the handle of the top of the brace and select "Edit group attributes." In the full and abbreviated name places click "edit" and enter the names, then click "ok."

The group name will appear centered between the two staves. No need to enter staff names (they are entered automatically when you enter the group names), hide them, or drag them around. See attached.

Still not working - see attached picture. The instrument list, full name is "piano." But on the score, beneath tuba, is an unmarked staff which should also read "piano" but it's blank. (BTW, it's only one staff as there is only one treble note occurring several times in the piano part.)

Look at the staff attributes. Probably Staff name in score in unchecked, since you normally don't want that on a grand staff.
