Just transitioned to iLok for my sample software and have Vienna ensemble 7 (Windows 10, Finale v 26).

Finale can't 'see' it in the device manager even when I tell it where to look.

Am I missing something really obvious? It used to work with Vienna version 6.

Have been playing around for last day or so trying to get it in Finale, so any help will be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Jill

I had the same problem when I transitioned to iLok, and I actually can't remember exactly how I overcame it. Presumably the problem occurs when you open an existing file? Do you have the HP preferences set to the Vienna techniques?
I recently received a file that would only display SmartSynth in the score manager, not even Garritan, let alone Vienna. I exported the file as an XML, imported it, and then Vienna was available.

If all else fails open a support ticket with VSL.

Did you install everything with Vienna Assistant?

Yes I did. My DAW (Cakewalk) can see everything OK, just not Finale

and Finale is seeing the 64bit version...? I think a 32bit version still gets installed (by default)

Finale is not seeing the 64 bit version. I don't know where the 32 bit version would be. I've looked. Will look some more!

Thanks to all for your help and some research which gave me more of an understanding regarding VST2 and VST 3 I have finally managed to sort this. For anyone having similar problems this is what I did.

1. Realised that Finale, as some others have said, can only recognise Vst 2.

VST 2 have the extension .DLL and VST 3 normally have the VST 3 extension

2. Realised that the Vienna assistant on install was not putting them where I had specified.

3. Looked at some helpful guidelines as to where the .Dll (VST2 files) might be on Windows pc and checked them all. Mine were not in these but armed with the knowledge of what to look for I found them (shown at the bottom of the other suggested places)

Suggested places where files might be
C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins
C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins
C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST2
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Steinberg\VST2
32-bit plug-ins on 64-bit Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugins

Mine were actually in this path

C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vst plugins

Told Finale to look in the above folder using Midi/Audio - manage vst plug in directories
and suddenly everything works!
