Running Finale 27.3.0.160 on macOS 12.6.5 (Monterey) — probably irrelevant, but ...
I've got an ordinary two-staff piano score where the hands don't even cross.
Is it possible to configure the file in such a way that when I save it as a MIDI file,
the bass and treble parts are on different channels?
I've got this bright idea to pull it into Logic Pro and do some stuff with it.
Thanks.

I don't know whether or not this would do what you want as I never save as a MIDI file. However, it is certainly possible via the Score Manager to have the two piano staves playback on different channels (each of which would then need dynamics, which can be hidden where superfluous).

David Ward — Yes! That works. When I export it to a MIDI file with that set up as you describe, it pops up a requester that asks if I want to save it with each instrument on a different MIDI channel or all instruments together. It didn't ask me that when it viewed the thing as one instrument.
Now I can yank it into Logic and play with different sounds for the left and right hands.
Great answer, thanks very much.

Thank you for that tip on XML. I'll experiment with that.
My understanding is that MusicXML is a text format to share sheet music, and which doesn't retain musical playback characteristics. To retain Human Playback characteristics for use in a DAW the file would need to be exported as a midi file. Also, there are midi file export options to export as a single or separate channels. Does Logic interpret dynamic and other markings?
