page and measure numbers

I am stumped. See attached. Page numbers: the first page of music is "1" but
I can't seem to get the following pages as "2", "3" and so on. How do I do it?
The second movement, which begins on the last page of the attachment, is showing the first measure as "3." How do I get the first measure to show "1" as the measure number? Thanks.

1) For "smart" page numbers, you have to create a text (Text tool), then Text menu -> Inserts -> Page Number. You can (Edit Frame) specify the region where the numbers should appear. And you can use the Edit Page Offset function (Text menu) if you want the page numbers to start at, say, page 3 but showing number 1.
2) The second region should actually start at measure 35.
Uncheck Hide first measure in region.

I'm getting your measure regions suggestion but I'm just not getting the Page numbers. It keeps coming out wrong. Could you walk me through it?

I followed your direction and typed "1" - but "41" appears (below meas.9). Then I corrected it to "1"but no page numbers on the following pages. See attached.

The default document has page numbers. Maybe you should use that as a model. The page numbers start on page 2, as is customary, so create a default document, add 100 measures, and have a look.

I never suggested to type 1...
Delete the 41.
You have page numbers at the top of the pages.
If you want them at another position, select the handle, right-click on it (or Ctrl-click on the Mac), select "Edit Frame Attributes" (to define their position, the page range, etc...).
P.S.: in the measure region, you may have to uncheck the box "Hide first measure...".

In the very first measure, you have staccato dotted quarters written. This will lead to confusion on how long the notes really are - there is really no such thing as a staccato dotted quarter note.

If you want just a bit of separation between notes, write a quarter and an eighth rest on each beat. More separation, an eighth and 2 eighth rests. Maximum shortness, a staccato eighth and 2 eighth rests.

Study the scores of the Beethoven symphonies - he very clearly notates length and playing style using note lengths, beaming patterns, etc.
