This has been bothering me for a long time.
If a chord symbol is placed inside the staff (usual for accompaniment or solos), in the selection tool, if one clicks on the chord, sometimes Finale selects the chord, sometimes the measure. I try to click on the same spot, but the result is always unpredictable.
Is there a way to consistently select the chord to avoid repeated trials ?

If you choose the Chord tool, do you get a handle that would give you a definite target?

Of course, Mike, but for all the other musical elements (expressions, articulations, etc), you can make that selection in the Selection tool and move an item directly, except when they are within the staff, because every other time, it is the measure that gets selected.

I don't use chords, but do you mean the chord symbol is on the staff lines? When I try it, you need to click right on the name (in red here) in order to select it; otherwise, it selects the measure.

Do you have an example?

Click the Chord Symbol - the Measure highlights. Click again in the exact same spot and the Chord Symbol should highlight.

It would be nice if to select the measure that has a chord placed within the staff, you should simply have to click outside of the chords. And if you click on the chord, it is the chord that would be selected.
There are other locations in Finale where you have to click precisely on a specific region (in the Resize Tool)...

I just checked and In Finale 25.5 and the selection tool seems to work with chord symbols as with other markings placed on the staff. If you click the marking, it highlights it and you can move it. If you click it a second time, the measure highlights. Or if you just click the measure, the measure highlights. Not seeing a problem.

I wish that only an option-click selected the measure within the Selection tool because I also find myself inadvertently selecting measures when I click a marking twice because I want to move it twice or whatever.
