Automatic beaming

I've recently been having a problem where very time I load a new document in finale, it won't automatically beam to the time signature. I didn't change any settings/preferences that would've caused this, but it just sorta started happening. I used to be able to fix it by just replacing/updating the time signature in the score, but that would only fix the notes that are already in, and any new notes I would do would go back to being unbeamed. But now, that doesn't even seem to work. This isn't a bad issue by any means, but it is really annoying. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening, or where I could go in the program to fix this? Thanks!

I'd say it was a very bad issue. You might post a file for members to look at. Never had such an issue, but then I am not using Finale 27.gmanhoffman wrote: ↑Mon Jul 24, 2023 1:11 amThis isn't a bad issue by any means, but it is really annoying

This would indeed be annoying. I've not seen it (I think I've reached my Finale bug quota this month), but what happens if you try Rebeam to Time Signature? I've used that in the past to beam things in a nonstandard way by selecting 1/1 for example.

When I do this it works, but not moving forward. So I guess I could just constantly do this function, but I'd really prefer it to automatically beam like it used to. I attached a file, all beaming is a correct as a result of that function, but the lick in m.48-49 shows what I would see when notating, just flags with no beams.

This might not be helpful as I am on a Mac, but when I add music to the end of your piece it beams correctly.

As far as I can tell, the beaming options as set in the file are correct - the eighths should beam in 4s. Select all of the measures in the file, go to Utilities Menu > Rebeam and pick "Rebeam Music" from the popup menu. That will reset the beaming on the entire file. Any difference?

Same here on 25.5. It is beaming correctly for me starting from where you left off. Maybe you have a "stuck key" ?

Same observations (Finale 26). Beams are correct (Simple or Speedy) in new entries.
Rebeam Music fixes the problem in your file, as Grossingink said.
Recreate preferences ?

Update, I found it out, I must've accidentally unclicked "check beaming" in the speedy entry menu. (Although I'm surprised something like that would transfer from file to file. Oh well.) Thanks all for the help!

The setting {Check Beaming} is program specific, not document specific (= the setting Check Beaming is saved in the program, not in the document).gmanhoffman wrote: ↑Fri Jul 28, 2023 2:53 am… I must've accidentally unclicked "check beaming" in the speedy entry menu. Hence the setting {Check Beaming} applies to all documents that are opened in the program.
Also, this explains why other users did not experience the same problem, when they opened your attached document.
