Finale 25/26 no longer runs on windows 11

I've tried windows 8 and windows 7 compatibility modes. No luck. Don't want to spend hundreds on an upgrade because I've pretty much switched to musescore but I'd love to be able to open one of the hundreds of older scores I have.

Furthermore, I have the receipt showing I purchased v26 but their site has no record of it and thinks I only V25

I understand but the upgrade to Finale 27.3 is $79 bucks right now not hundreds. I, too, have dabbled with and currently have Musescore 4.1. I can confidently say Finale 27.3 is so far better then the not ready for prime time Musescore it isn't even a comparison.
However you can export your old Finale scores as XML and Musescore will attempt to open them. You can then laboriously edit them with its convoluted tools to your liking.

I tried exporting musicxml on one of my jazz leadsheets a few windows 11 updates ago, and it does not properly export musicxml so the import into musescore was pretty much useless.

Official status from Makemusic: Supported

As of October 15, 2021, the official Knowledge Base article says:

After thorough testing with our Finale notation and Garritan products, we have not found anything in Windows 11 that prevents the programs from operating as expected. Windows 11 is considered a supported OS within our system requirements.

also, given that 25 and 26 both hang , i'm not going to shell out for the upgrade without verifying it works.

as recent as jan, 2023 finale 26 worked in windows 11. It does not any longer.

As you can see by my signature I am running Finale 27.3 on Windows 11 and have been for a long while now. It not only runs it has worked perfectly on Windows 11. I use it every day and usually for hours. It is running as we speak now. I am working on Christmas music for our Bones Midwest Christmas Concert at Crown Center in KC, MO.

It could be that Finale 25/26 hangs on Windows 11 for a problem having to do with your particular setup rather than an incompatibility between Finale and Windows 11. You might want to contact MakeMusic, who should be able to help you troubleshoot. Have you tried reinstalling? Here's an easy thing to try first:
