Blank Boxes for Expressions / Techniques Etc.

Just upgraded for 2012 to v27. Many problems. One is, I'm getting blank boxes, for example, for expressions--nothing in there. Oh, and the redo / undo isn't working. Windows 10.

I don't know why your expressions aren't there. Is that true for a new document, or only old ones?

Make sure Undo is enabled in Preferences.

Sounds like a font problem if you open a 2012 file in 27 and see the missing text. Have you rebooted the computer since installing 27? Might be a good idea to do it anyway. You could also post a small file for others to test.

Old ones. Allow Undo worked. Thanks very much! Also, expression selection is blank, again, in old ones.

According to Score Manager, this file was created with Finale NotePad 2002.1.



I suppose that could be the reason, though I'm only guessing.

Even with older files created 15 years ago (Finale 2008), there are no serious problems editing them, but when issues pop up out of the blue, the only thing I can think of is that I should have made my template with the latest version at hand.

If you still have Finale 2012, open the file with that version. If it looks OK, save it and then open that file with Finale 27. Worth a try.

It sounds like it has to do with the Notepad file. You didn't state whether expressions in the original document were missing when opened in Finale. Otherwise you could just load the libraries you need.

Make a new document and copy the old document into it and you should be good to go.

Hmmm, I was wondering about that. In my experience, the same staff layout and instruments have to be laid out. I'll try that right now. Thank you.

Thank you but I'm afraid I'm just not "getting it." Specifically the dynamics box is blank. So I looked for "dynamics" in the load libraries. I see "Dynamics" in the Jazz Font. They work but I can live with the font. No markings work when I apply something from articulations.

OK, let me see... Meanwhile, the main trouble is no markings work when I apply something from articulations.

Load the Maestro Font Default.Lib library. When you then click on any of the tools (expression, articulation, etc) they should all then be populated.

This was not a problem or bug. You just didn't know the solution. Something happened to the ".lib" file in your old Print Music file and 27.3 could not use it. What else hopefully they will be as easy to fix?
