How can I create CºM7?
This chord, to be clear:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diminishe ... enth_chord
I can't type in the symbols I want because it stops me after the diminished - or it leaves the "o" as CoM7.
I would also like it to play back properly.
Or maybe there is another way to write this chords?
B/Cº but it won't write that or even give me an option to add it to the vocabulary.
It won't even let me use B/Cdim.

Two ideas:
1) You can write the chord symbol as B/C.
To get correct playback, tell Finale to play the Alternate Bass:
2) You can create the chord suffix ºM7 in the Chord Suffix Editor.
To set playback:
In the Chord Suffix Editor click the button Set Play…
Set the Suffix Keynumber Offsets to
3 - 6 - 11
To enter the chord suffix via Type Into Score, consider using the colon method.
In this example lat us say that your new suffix displays at the bottom of the Chord Suffix Selection as number 178.
Then, type
C:178

1) It's B over Cdim - but the software won't even let add anything under a slash.
- but never mind because the second option worked!
2) Thank you - the offsets made no sense to me.
I like the colon method, thanks! Now both are working.

You will have to create a new suffix (Chord Tool, double click on the score-> Select -> Create).
Save the library to be able to load it in other files. Before loading the library, delete the existing library to avoid duplicates.
You can define the playback of the new chord via Edit -> Set Play.
P.S. : I use CoΔ (or B/C occasionally, easy to read).
With C on the bass, it clearly is a diminished chord; the B is just an added tension (1 whole step above the chord tone A, which it replaces).
A little brother, same diminished chord : C, Eb, Ab, B (2 tensions), kind of Ab-/C or Co#5Δ...

Correcting myself:
B/C is a nice sounding chord, but it misses the chord tone ‘a’.
To include the ‘a’, write the chord symbol as B7/C (easy to read).

I suspect that our colleague doesn't want an A in the chord.

On one hand, ReReDouble linked to a Wikipedia page where the chord is without the ‘a’:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diminishe ... enth_chord
On The Other Hand,
Assuming that ReReDouble, by ‘Cdim’ means diminished seventh chord, then the ‘a’ is included.ReReDouble wrote: ↑Sat Sep 16, 2023 3:35 amIt's B over Cdim - but the software won't even let add anything under a slash.
But if ReReDouble, by ‘Cdim’ means diminished triad, then the ‘a’ is not included.
It has been my impression that ‘Cdim’ usually means diminished seventh chord.
Am I mistaken?

We agree, I follow your logic. dim should in theory mean 3 notes. 4 notes imply dim 7 (as you know, of course . My experience is similar to yours : to save time and remain compact, the 7 is often omitted in the suffix, even when 4 notes are used.
P.S. : As I mentioned earlier, I personally use CoΔ to specify C, Eb, Gb and B ("tension" which replaces the chord tone A).

ReReDouble,
There is an amazing plugin called "Chord Kerner" by Michael McClennan that might do what you are asking.
Here is a link to the instructions from Michael's website:
https://michaelmcclennan.com/chord-kerner-v1-0/
This plugin (Lua Script) is a FREE download from his site. It is currently presented as "Mac Only", but I noticed in your profile you are a Mac user.
If you are new to RGP/JW Plugins, the link above includes instructions for getting started with RGP Lua plugin installation. Use RGP Lua as JW Lua is no longer updated. RGP Lua is in active development and works with the new Mac OS versions.

Since I have installed Monterey, Chord Kerner generates an error message a soon as I enter a suffix ID.
Does anybody have a similar experience in Monterey ?

Please post the error message - it may be due to the RGP Lua version you have installed. There are some issues with RGP Lua 0.67...
What version do you have installed?

I was hoping this had been updated, obviously not yet.
Reverting back to RGP Lua 0.65 may eliminate this error (it did for me - I'm on Monterey also). Some of the newest plugins might require 0.67 at this point, so errors in other plugins might pop up using 0.65.
I'll send Michael a note about the error and code line number. I just got a different error when clicking on the "Full Suffix" button also.
Let's hope he is willing to update the script...

An update : as we have found out, Chord Kerner 1 has compatibility problems with RGP Lua 0.67, but I noticed that it works fine with RGP Lua 0.66. So a dedicated folder for RGP Lua 0.66 (next to the RGP Lua 0.67 folder) is a solution until the bugs are fixed.
The bugs that I have spotted are :
• Chord Kerner quits when a Chord Suffix ID is entered
• Chord Kerner quits when a new character is added to a chord suffix.
Michael McClennan is working on a beta version 2, which will fix the bugs, to make it compatible with RGP Lua 0.67. Mac only at this point.
