Tempo and Time Signature in MIDI files - Finale or Cakewalk problem?
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
I need to do some editing of a score in Cakewalk to prepare an audio sample because EastWestSounds choir libraries tend to be only partly compatible with Finale. To accomplish this, I have been exporting the relevant tracks as MIDI files and importing them into Cakewalk. BUT - no matter what I try, Cakewalk doesn't utilize the tempo time signature data in the midi file. If I set a tempo (even if I set it with the MIDI tool and incorporate midi settings in HP) Cakewalk doesn't find it. And it interprets all my time signatures as 4/4 even if they are 6/8 or 5/4 in Finale.
Is this a known issue with Finale's export of MIDI files, or is it an issue with Cakewalk not finding the relevant tempo/TS data in the file?
If it matters, Finale version 26 on windows 10

Try opening the exported file in Finale and see if it gets the time signature right. There might also be some utility that reads through a MIDI file and shows things like time signature.tramsey wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 1:02 pmI need to do some editing of a score in Cakewalk to prepare an audio sample because EastWestSounds choir libraries tend to be only partly compatible with Finale. motet, this was exactly the ticket, thank you for the suggestion! (Why didn't I think of that?) The file opens with the tempo and time signature data exactly as it should, so now I know where the problem is/isn't.
If you've been exporting the tracks individually one-by-one rather than as a single midi file containing multiple tracks then Human Playback may be treating the individual tracks' tempo differently from one another. This issue has been reported on the forum. I don't know if this applies to your situation, but just mentioning it...
