Hello. I am not getting any sound when I attempt to use Garritan Instruments in my newly-installed Finale v26.

I got a new laptop and installed v26. At that time I believe there was some alert that popped up regarding Garritan Instruments, and I'm not sure now what it said. But all the instruments show up in the score manager and playback proceeds as if the instruments are there. There are no alerts or anything like that.

The sound is fine when I used MIDI instead.

The problem is the same regardless of what file I choose.

I should also note that I'm not sure I have actually ever used Garritan Instruments before. So there could be some simple step I'm missing.

- I use a Mac, Ventura OS
- The Aria Player appears just fine in "Audio Units Banks and Effects"
- I tried "Reassign Playback Sounds"
- I tried restarting Finale
- I tried restarting the computer

Thanks everyone.

A few ideas :
You didn't mention if you selected "Play Finale via Audio Units" in the Midi/Audio menu.
Midi/Audio -> Device Setup -> Audio Setup : check your output device.
And make sure that the instruments are defined in the Aria Player and that midi channels in the ScoreManager match the midi channels in the Aria Player.

One other basic check (it's happened to many many times): check Midi/Audio...VST Banks and Effects to ensure the volume slider is on. When opening a new bank it sometimes defaults to zero.

Thank you! The audio setup seems to have been the problem. Strange that MIDI was working fine anyhow before.

Also, while I was adjusting that I got the ol' “Finale’s audio engine failed to load. Please restart finale. Error code 7.” Of course I had already restarted Finale and the laptop before and it didn't help. I guess it was the audio setup.

Thanks again!

And now I have the problem where all the instruments work, except one for some reason. When I solo the track in Studio View, there is no sound at all. The channels listed in the Score Manager are out of order at that point, but it's just channel 2. Don't see what the problem would be? Any ideas, anyone? Thanks!

It gets stranger! When I change the instrument to marimba or xylophone, it works. When I set it at glockenspiel or crotales, there's no sound!

And even stranger. I tried changing the vibraphone staff to glockenspiel to confirm it was an issue with the instrument and not the staff. No sound. So I changed it back to vibraphone. Now there's still no sound. So a track that was fine is now silent. I restarted Finale. Same problems.

Those instruments have different transpositions, while marimba is written at concert pitch. Check the setting in the score manager.

Double check your midi channels and instrument sounds...

The vibraphone going suddenly missing was due to a mismatch between Aria and Score Manager.

There is still the problem of missing Glockenspiel sounds though. I checked the transposition in the Score Manager. I had it up an 8ve before due to the MIDI sounds. I changed it back to no transposition. There's still no sound.

Is it somehow possible that I see the instrument in the Aria player, but that it was never actually loaded into Finale?
