Spacing at end of measure
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
Can someone help me find a better way to fix a large gap at the end of each measure? I have tried "apply note spacing" and I have also tried "spacing before and after music" and putting in a negative value. It "kind of" works, but then music spacing is a little off. I'm sure I am missing something here.

Look in Measure Attributes. You can reduce that space by entering a negative number in the Extra Space at End box. If you select the entire score, that setting will affect every measure.

If you'll notice, the space after those final notes in the "house of the" bar are is about the same as the space after the same note values in the middle of the bar, so I'm not sure there's anything wrong--to me it looks OK. The "dwell in the" spacing is odd, though--did you manually fiddle with that? That does look bad to me. Generally, you want longer notes to have more space.
You can fiddle with the "beat charts" in the Measure tool by double-clicking the handle on the barline shown. That brings up a set of handles above the measure. You can drag those left or right. If you hold Shift while dragging, it will drag all to the right as well. I'm guessing you'll find this tedious, though, and may want to accept what Finale is giving you by default, knowing that it's typical notation.

I won’t swear to it, but I think that may be a difference between note spacing and beat spacing. Whichever you have chosen, try the other one. Look in Measure Attributes > Position Notes.

Doesn't appear to be--just tried it.
Like I said, Finale leaves the same amount of space between a note and the end of the bar as between a note of the same value earlier in the bar and the next note.
