I'm on a Sonoma 14.0 Mac and Finale is 27.3.something.

I'm writing a guitar piece where there's a certain amount of strumming. (As in funk.) What is standard practice for notating a chord that's basically a chop, i.e. the right hand crosses the strings but the left hand mutes them? Some kind of X I'm guessing?

This is more a question about notational practice than about Finale.

But I'd also like a hint about how to accomplish it in Finale, particularly if there is a notehead that can be used that produces at least a simulation in playback.

I semi-asked this once quite a while ago but there wasn't much feedback. (I think it was in the context of solving another problem, so I let it go.)

A quick Google seems to suggest that the X is used. If necessary, a text note could make your meaning clear. I doubt that Finale could get the playback right. You may have to go to a more guitar-specific sound font. (Of which I know nothing.)

Hopefully forum member 'Djard' will see this and respond. He is well versed on contemporary playing techniques for guitar. You might want to send him a private message pointing him to this discussion. He's a real gentleman so I'm sure wouldn't mind.
