MM are having a sale for Black Friday, and to celebrate 35 years of Finale.

Finale costs $89 to buy outright  and $65 to upgrade!!!

This time, even Garritan instruments are discounted -- except the CFX pianos, annoyingly, (which are arguably the only ones that still compare well to competing products and current standards/expectations).

You can get all the Garritan libraries for $199, so essentially if you buy CFX Piano, you get the rest for free.

I was actually tempted to upgrade when I read your post - until I saw their caveat:

Offer ends December 1st, 2023. Offer only available for customers in the United States.

Having been a UK Finale user since v3.7 I'd really like to know why I (alongside any other non-USA customer) am excluded from this...
Finale 25.5, Cubase Pro 12.0.70, WaveLab Pro 11.2, Dorico 5.0.20
GPO 5, VSL SE Vols.1-4, VSL Synchron Pianos, EWQL Choirs, Halion 6, BBCSO
Win10 x64, 64GB RAM, Focusrite Scarlett 18i20

Ooh, yeah that's really annoying. That having been said, I was able to apply the discount to an order; but didn't go through with it, so I don't know whether it would actually work.

This is not the first time that US-only restriction has applied.

The question is, though, why?

Perhaps because of agreements with European dealers? I'm sure they'd like the sale, but perhaps they can't.

Rest-of-World customers can buy Finale directly from MM, so it's not like local dealers have exclusive rights.

MM shouldn't need to offer significant concessions to shops, in order to give them the retailers' share of the cover price.

I've asked, and will post the reply when it comes.

Personally, I wouldn't mind MM raising the price of Finale if they did something about all the flaws in it. Lowering the price, for whatever nationality, gives me a bad feeling.

MM have replied that it is indeed due to exclusive distributor agreements "in some countries". But since the UK isn't one of those, they will allow the discount on purchases from the UK.

It does give the feeling of a fire sale. MuseScore is of course free. Both Sibelius and Dorico have free versions, and cheaper 'mid-range' versions. Finale used to have tiered products, but without them, it's having to compete with very low prices.

True, of course. No need to add to the comments on MM's lack of ambition, really. But that they now have put themselves in a position where they have to compete with lower prices instead of higher quality is quite sad.

It's crazy that they're still offering PrintMusic 2014 for sale, with no update and no Mac version.

Plenty of people will pay more for quality, and lots of businesses do very well serving that market. Even *** - strapped musicians will chose 'named' brands over generic alternatives! :D
