Split-measure plug-in when pickup measure is present

To help someone in another topic, I had occasion to run the split-measure plug-in on a piece with a pickup measure. When you do this, you get the spurious warning "Only a partial measure region is selected." If you dismiss it with "Continue" it works as desired, but how confusing to the unsuspecting new user who doesn't know how flaky Finale is.

Note also that the dialog now says "Split measure X beats" instead of the former "Split measure after X beats," something else to confuse the user. Why in the world would they make such a change?

The latter issue is almost certainly a result of the fontsize increasing, or the width of the label control decreasing - either of which would cause windows to truncate the text from the nearest space behind what can't be displayed. Since changing the control size would be deliberate, I'll go with increased fontsize - particularly as the 'gaps' between text and dialog borders look smaller on your 2nd screenshot.

Brilliant, smw_brighton! I'm sure you're right. "Move second part of split measure to next system" is wider in the newer version. My guess is the font size is the same but it's a different font. The newer one is admittedly more attractive.

The bug with pickup measure goes back to at least Finale 2011. Finale 2005b doesn't seem to have the plug-in.

I don't use the pickup measure feature, but I notice that the quarter rest (or whatever) that is displayed there is really a default "whole" rest. I unsuspectingly tried both to repitch the rest and Ctrl+click on it from Simple entry, which confusingly didn't work.

I wonder whether if whoever wrote these plug-ins ever revisits them just to make sure they are still working correctly or if they do need updating. Again with the oblivious limited beta testing done by MM this too was probably missed.

I already reported a bug with the updated JW Rhythm Copy to MM; it still works but oddly also copies articulations and removes harmonics in strings. I suspect many plugins do not get regularly updated (the one big exception is Patterson).

MakeMusic should test every plug-in (and indeed every tool and function) when they're going to release a new version. Only if there's a problem might the plug-in author have to be involved. The split-measure plugin is at least a decade old; the author is probably long gone but MM I'm sure has the source code.

Oh right! They obliviously don't do that. Not only that, MM can not see all the various combinations of apps, software and hardware, whatever, combinations that a robust beta tester program could see like the previous group had.
