odd changes to expression playback for older docs

I've noticed in several documents created in F26 and now opened in F27.4, expression playback settings are all messed up. For example, dynamics are mapped to Tempo:

Same thing with technique text like con sord, etc.

Not seeing this issue with any recent works I created anew in F27.x.

Any ideas? Very bizarre, but as with a consistent crash when I click on an instrument in Score Manager to change a channel, I have no idea why this is happening...
