On the attached file, at meas. 46, there should be a continuation of the flute part.
But it seems to have disappeared. I tried to write the flute line from m.44 (F-C-F-E) but it won't let
me continue through m.46 and beyond. Can you tell me what has happened? Thanks. (The same
seems to have occured also on the soprano part.)

You probably used "Hide Empty Staves". You can make it reappear : Staff tool : select the top handle, Staff menu -> Show Empty Staves.
Don't apply Hide Empty Staves before all the active staves have been completed.

Not sure I understand. Do you mean the topmost handle on meas.41 just left of the treble clef?

musicus,

1) In Scroll View you can see that the Flute measures are empty from meas. 46 and onwards.

2) From meas. 46 to meas. 49 (= in System 10) the Flute Staff is hidden.
This was done via
Staff menu > Hide Empty Staves

3) You can un-hide the Flute Staff via the Staff menu, but do not bother!
While viewing the score in Scroll View you can copy m. 44–45 to m. 46–47.
This step will automatically un-hide the Flute Staff in System 10.

I copied as you suggested and I see it in Page View, but I don't see the remainder of the flute part beyond that, even when I try to enter notes.

If I understand you correctly, you are trying to enter music from Page View - right?

If you enter music from Scroll View, then you can enter music anywhere, in any staff, in any measure.

Many users enter all the music from Scroll View - and do not switch to Page View until the music has been entered, and it is time to work on the layout.

If you must enter from Page View:
Staff Tool.
Select All.
Staff menu > Show Empty Staves
