Already raised in an unrelated topic so raising a new topic for visibility

Has anybody come across the File info tab on Score Manager showing "a piacere" for the Score name and then being unable to change it to something more meaningful in a way that persists after closing down the Score Manager?

Maybe it's something obvious but...

Peter

I suspect file corruption.

Does it happen in all Finale documents - or only in some documents?

Could you attach here (for the gurus to examine) a Finale document with the problem?

Hi Peter
I've done a bit more investigation albeit limited...but I've found that the problem seems only to affect the Choir templates.

Attached is a blank score completed via setup wizard using Choral Finale engraver template.

You will find that a piacere is prefilled in and cannot be changed.

I do not see it in either the sample you offered or my choir templates.

I can confirm the problem, both in your file and in going through the setup wizard. Where are you planning to use the score name? You might have to work around it by using a separate text block for score and parts.

I would report it to them, but don't hold your breath waiting for them to fix it.

ebiggs - your files have the problem, too. Are you sure you're looking at the Score name (not the title)?

Here's a fix, PR167!

Go to the Expression tool, double-click on the staff somewhere, hunt down a piecere in the Show All "category," and delete it. That seems to fix it.

Perhaps the coffee has not set in yet but what exactly am I looking for. This looks OK to me.

Try changing the score name--not the Title, which also says a piacere--in the score manager info tab. Close the score manager, then open it again.

The file as they've set it up doesn't use the score name, so your picture proves nothing. Try adding a text block and using the score/part name insert.

Yes, I see it now, too. Strange!
There seems to be an issue with place 59 in the Expressions category.

Thanks everybody for confirming that I'm not going crazy.

I have deleted 59 (a piacere) from the expressions in a file created using the Choral Finale Engraver template and the problem has gone away.

Clearly this is something that has slipped through the rigorous testing procedures!!!!

By the way Motet. Your comments are a bit aggressive!

Perhaps you can see the issue now!!!!!

I suspect the comments you found aggressive (bold-faced, italics) were directed at ebiggs, who wasn't understanding the issue, not you. I in fact saw the issue and solved your problem with no aggression!

Here is the sum total of my posts to you:

Perhaps you'd like to retract that?

So you don't have to do this every time you create a file that way, you can edit the files the set-up wizard uses and delete that same expression (these are really the same as .musx files, so Finale will open them):

C:\Users\yourlogin\AppData\Roaming\MakeMusic\Finale 27\Music Files\Document Styles\Choral\Choral (Finale Engraver).ftmx
C:\Users\yourlogin\AppData\Roaming\MakeMusic\Finale 27\Music Files\Document Styles\Choral\Choral (Finale Maestro).ftmx

Consider it retracted. You are correct, ebiggs1 was the "culprit" not you.
I was guilty of not reading the posts carefully enough.
Very sorry and thanks for your help.
I have mentioned the bug on the Finale Power Users group on FB and will raise a ticket with MakeMusic support.

Best wishes
Peter

That's good! I don't want to fight with you.

I think you missed PR167's point, though, which was that he had intended this for you: "By the way, your comments are a bit aggressive! Perhaps you can see the issue now!!!!!"

It's helpful to say "I don't see the problem" once, but you did so again and again, even after I confirmed his issue and posted a solution. It pays to read carefully--otherwise you run the risk of pissing people off.

PR167, I searched for "a piacere" in Facebook and found someone who reported the exact same problem with an earlier version of Finale 27 a year ago, and in fact she alluded to an even earlier post. Curiously, she was writing a string quartet, so either she used the choral template or other templates also have the problem. My workhorse version, 2014.5, doesn't have this problem with the choral templates, so maybe it's confined to the SMuFL versions.

Either she didn't report the problem to MakeMusic or they ignored it. I suspect the number of Finale bugs introduced in new versions outpaces the number that they fix, so forums like this one and Facebook are essential!

motet - that's interesting. I only recently moved to 27 from 26. I retained my 26 on my laptop and have just checked and the problem isn't in 26.
I wonder if I could copy the .fmtx file from my 26 installation which I know works to the 27 install?
I'll certainly raise a support ticket with Make Music tomorrow anyway.

Many thanks for your continued help

Peter

It appears to be only the SMuFL files ("Finale Engraver", "Finale Maestro") which have the problem. Your 26 .fmtx would be the old Engraver or Maestro template, and those are already OK in 27. Like I said above, you can just edit the SMuFL .fmtx files and remove a piacere and that should fix it.

For What It Is Worth:

I checked all the templates for my own copy of Finale v27.4.1.146 - that is, I opened each template, went to the File Info chiclet, and looked at the field for “Score Name’ Insert.

No sign of ‘a piacere’ anywhere.

I found it in a new document based on the Choral (Finale Maestro) template.

Interesting. I wonder if it's upgrade vs full install.
