It seems like there's a printing default to print the score. is there anyway to change that default? I'm always catching my printer chugging out a million pages of score when I just meant to print out a certain part, but, silly me, failed to uncheck the 'score' option.

thanks!

This seems to be yet another ill-considered new "feature" (Finale 2014.4 versus Finale 27 defaults show below). It seems to pick Score even if you're editing a part. The old way of defaulting to nothing was I think preferable if not very useful (if I were designing it I would have it pick whatever part you were editing).

I don't know if it's practical for you, but you might consider always going through PDF first. That has the added advantage of creating a Finale-independent copy of your piece should Finale suddenly quit working for some reason--not a far-fetched scenario!

At least in the mac version i'm using, I have the same problem if I'm exporting to pdf, 'score' is checked by default. Granted, I'm not wasting paper immediately if I export a score by accident, but it adds an extra step if I'm just trying to print, would then have to open the pdf and print from acrobat or whatever.

Right, print to PDF doesn't fix the default, but indeed it saves you from wasting paper. I'd be surprised if there were a setting to change that default.

I use CutePDF on Windows (I believe there's a Mac version). When I print to CutePDF, it opens the program and puts your music in it. All you need do is switch to that window and print. Does the Apple print to pdf works this way as well?

no, it just saves the pdf. It’d be great if Finale just didn’t make ‘score’ the default.

This FinaleScript macro will do what you want. Or, maybe you'd like "Check Current."

Does the Finale script macro set an ongoing print preference or does it just change the preference for the next print operation?

The latter. To be used instead of how you normally trigger printing.

thanks. I'm really looking for a way to change the default -- running a macro each time i print isn't much better than having to uncheck 'score' every time, it's an extra little step.

In my case I use the keystroke triggering the macro instead of the Finale print button or Ctrl-P. Same number of steps (fewer, since Check Current doesn't need to be clicked).
