Hello, I know how to do 4 beats of slash in one layer and 4 beats of cue in another layer.

I've figured out how to hide the cue notes, so that only the slashes show for the 1st 3 beats, but I can't seem to get the 4th beat slash to hide. It shows hidden (greyed out) in the layer but it still shows in the print preview.

This is what I'm trying to accomplish (attached). Thank you!

What version of Finale?

Windows Finale or Mac Finale?

Unfortunately I am unable to reproduce your problem.

To create the layout in your attached graphic I selected the first 3 beats, and applied the staff style Slash Notation.
The staff style appeared on the first 3 beats.
No slash showed on the last beat.

Could you perhaps attach a (small) Finale sample document that shows the problem?

I suspect this is the step babryanaton is not doing.

It is slightly hinky. If you apply the staff style first and then run the cue notes plug-in, you get the quarter-note rest in layer 1 as expected (which can be hidden).

But, if you run the plug-in and then apply the staff style, the quarter rest you get is actually in layer 4, though it's colored black. So keep that in mind when trying to hide the rest.

Sorry for the delayed response, but thank you both for your help.

I was making it more complicated than it needed to be. Here's what I was doing:
- selected the measure
- apply slash notation
This applied slash notation the full 4 beats.

So then I created 2 layers:
- layer 1 with 3 beats rest (hidden) and the 2 eighths
- layer 2 with 3 beats
- apply slash notation to layer 2 but keep notes in other layers
This applied the slash notation but always added in an extra slash in beat 4, and trying to hide it didn't work.

But after reading both of your replies - many times - and trial & error, I finally clued in about the part re 'selecting the first 3 beats' & solved the problem. I was selecting the whole measure (which is why I used 2 layers). So..
- In one layer, I added 3 rests (hid them), then the 2 eighths
- Then I selected ONLY the 1st 3 rests and applied slash notation.
Voila! It worked!

 Once you know how something works, it really is much easier than expected!

Thanks for your help!
