There is a trick that I forgot, involving the asterisc* and up-down arrows, which aligned and moved expressions and hairpins. What is it?

You're talking about shortcuts to TG Tools/Align-move dynamics, I think. On Windows, it's Alt+keypad-* to align to which ever option is set in the plug-in dialog, Alt+down-arrow to align and move down, Alt+up-arrow to align and move up. Try Option on the Mac.
