Imagine you lose authorization for Finale. You will have access to a lifetime of work only thru the MusicXML, MIDI and PDF files you have carefully exported for all your parts and scores.
We should ask Finale to no longer require internet approval of our installations. We should ask Finale to let us authorize new installs of our now obsolete software using our passwords only.
In the future where Makemusic will not be there to provide that sort of authorization.
I have long complained of the formatting and other errors inherent in Finale's xml, and anticipate it taking a long time to transfer existing work to a new program.
Meanwhile, we need to run FInale...
I would think Finale owes us longtime users the ability in perpetuity to install our software with our serial numbers alone.
While this does not provide as much protection against piracy, it is enough. The serial number alone is what is used for a great many software products and should be enough, considering the potential economic damage from piracy of an obsolete product would be damage to revenue for a product no longer being sold! .
Ask Finale to make your password all that is needed to authorize
