Hi Peter,

We're currently working on a string quartet score (V1, V2, Vla, Clo) and would like to setup Kontakt Player 2 for playback.

The score has four staves and we've written the chords on top of the staves to aid us in putting in the proper voicing.

We've setup Kontakt Player with the four instruments (i.e., V1 on midi ch 1, V2 on midi ch 2, Vla on midi ch 3, and Clo on midi ch 4)

Problems:

1. We've managed to get Kontakt to play V1 and V2 on their respective midi channels, but Vla and Clo parts don't play on their Kontakt instruments. Why is this happening when we've setup the 4 Kontakt instruments to respond to midi chs 1 to 4?

2. Because we have the chords written on top of the staves, the chords also playback on each midi channel/instrument. Is there a way to mute chord playback so we can just hear the melodic lines....or assign the chords to play back on another channel?

3. As mentioned in item 2, we can hear the chords playback in the Vla instrument (midi ch 3), but not the melody. Why is this so?

4. Is seems that by default, the four parts of the score are assigned to midi channels 1 to 4. Is it possible to change these default midi channel assignments?

Hope you can further advise us.

Thanks,

Vic

PS. We haven't written out the Cello part yet, so nothing plays on instrument 4 (midi ch 4).

A partial answer, but here are some elements :
Take a look at the Instrument list window. On the left of each staff name, a triangle gives you access to more functions. In the M column (mute), check the box "chords". Chords will be muted for that staff.
And as far as hearing the melody in the viola is concerned, double check that the melody layers are not muted. Make sure also that Violin 1 & 2 are not checked in the S (solo) column, because that would mute all the other staves.
Hope this helps.

vicsant,

I suggest that you post the rest of your Kontakt Player questions on MakeMusic's own forum:

There are some power users there with lots of Kontakt Player experience.
