I upgraded to Leopard. Finale seems to work, but when I quit, I get the message "The application Finale 2007 quit unexpectedly."

This problem has been reported on the Makemusic Finale forum by several users, but it is obviously not dangerous, thus not a reason to worry.

My Finale 2007c did´t start under Leopard.

Did you reinstall Finale after updating Leopard?

I'm running Finale 2007 on a MacBook Pro with Leopard (OS 10.5). Finale seems to work fine but crashes when I want to quit. I don't agree that since it happens only when I'm trying to quit anyway, I shouldn't worry about it. I don't think it's healthy to have an app crash every single time it's used regardless of the circumstances. Finale should issue an update. People should be able to use the most recent OS on their machine. Apple seeded Leopard to developers months ago.

You are absolutely right. Let's hope all this, and other problems, gets fixed in the 2008a update, generally expected before the end of the year.

Hi all,

my Finale quits with a crash in Leopard, but I also lost a musicfile: error -39. Not sure whether this is due to Leopard, but it's a pain having to enter all notes again. Just give us an update on version 2007. I do not need nor want 2008.

:-)

I hope realy for an update to fix the Problems in Finale 2007.

On my MacBook (2 GHZ intel core 2 duo) Finale 2007 didn´t start. It crash after loading "floating Windows" (can see this in on Finale 2007 loading screen).

I am a little behind. I just installed Leopard a week ago. I haven't worked with Finale 2007 much, but I have discovered that I can no longer save special (.aiff or .mpg files). Not only does the save special not work, but my system crashes after trying. I have to force quit finale and relaunch my finder before I can restart my computer. Not cool.

All-

From what I can tell both Finale 08 and 07 are not supported in Leopard. They are working on a patch - the release of Leopard probably delayed the patch further, but I doubt if they will go back and patch Finale 2007 to work on the new OS.

They did not patch 2005 or later to work on intel machines.

It is economics and MakeMusic is a small company.

To confirm what iannis just posted, I was told by Finale Technical Support yesterday that there would be no patch for users of Finale 2007. When I said it looks like I have no choice but to dump Leopard or spend the $100 to upgrade to 2008 the Tech guy said "That is a true statement". This is unfortunate. I ordered my Finale 2008 yesterday. $100 a year...it feels like I am paying dues or something. After purchasing the upgrade I was asked to take a short survey. I really had a difficult time answering the question concerning why I was upgrading to 2008.

Anyway, there is a work-around for the "Save Special">Audio File problem, but the crashing will continue.

I've been using Finale 2007 now for a bit with Leopard. In addition to crashing every single time I quit (as mentioned above), I can report that there are lots of other smaller but annoying bugs as well. Certain parts of the page (like the layers box or the upper left corner where the minimize and close buttons are) will be scrabbled in a way I've never seen until refreshed. Also, JUST rehearsal letter D is missing in ALL my scores and parts. For some reason, just that one letter shows up as blank!! Crazy. Also, I can no longer just print certain pages of my choosing. I have to print the whole thing or nothing. That may be an OS thing instead of a Finale thing, but it is a drag either way. I'd say, all in all, it is usable but feels like early beta software. If you need Finale to work flawlessly (and who doesn't?), then you will not be happy. I'm not.

In regards to the printing issue I mentioned above, Leopard changed the way the print dialogue box looks; they didn't remove functionality. The print dialogue in Leopard has fewer choices at the top level but there is an unlabeled more and less info button. When you push that, a lot more choices appear at the bottom. I simply hadn't pushed the unmarked button yet.

I think this was said earlier:

Finale 2007 is not supported on Leopard. As far as I can tell there are no plans by MakeMusic to go back and make older version compatible with a brand new operating system.

Why doesn't who inform you? Do you mean Apple?

Finale 2008 was released months before Leopard was released and I am looking at my dvd case - it does not say that Leopard is supported.

This is the nature of software. Why don't you spread a little blame towards Apple for creating an operating system that did not allow older software programs to work correctly? What software, besides Appleware worked on Leopard at release?

Do you see how ridiculous the argument can become? If you purchase a new operating system be prepared to upgrade the software that runs on it.

Why doesn't who inform you? it.
I mean those who sell the software : I raised the question as I always do when I buy a new software.
But in fact I finally solved my problem : it was as I suspected a problem of ill configuration of MIDI which none of the specialists I contacted was able to correct...The manuals are so poorly drafted that beginners like me get often lost.
Now everything seems to work properly : I faced no more problem with Leopard.

Hi, guys -- I've got news for you --

2008 does the same thing -- quits with an error message.

Several of my musician pals are tired of the careless nature of this company, and are ready to move to other programs.

The new version 2008b corrects this problem. "Quit" actually quits.

I'm on leopard and Finale 2008b will work fine... you will have to update though to get it to work.
