Is there a way around to notate 256th and 512th notes?

Not sure if anything will happen, but you might try entering them as 128ths and then making them 50% or 25% of their value.

In Finale 2008 the "duration change" command can be found here:

Utilities menu > Change > Note Durations...

For earlier versions of Finale, look in the Mass Edit menu instead.

By The Way:
256th and 512th rests are a specific problem.
Finale's music fonts don't contain characters for 256th and 512th rests, so Finale will display nothing.
The rest symbols can be created in the Shape Designer, by combining existing rest symbols.
You can attach the rest symbols as expressions.
