I'm feeling very lost with Finale 2008. I want to upgrade my 2004 version to it. I uninstalled 2004, but can reinstall again, since I have the CD. Is this possible to do? What is your recommendation? I don't want to pay again for a new version. I'm just feeling very lost over this situation. Please help.

You can install both versions, no problem.

Ok, but, what if I want to upgrade? How do I do that without paying? Could I do that with the 2008 version, or also from 2004? How's this work?

If I understand your question, assuming that you have purchased version 2008 :
MakeMusic has a "small upgrade" rate, to go from one version to the next. In your case, 2008 to 2009.
Their "large upgrade" is a bit more expensive, and applies to upgrades from an older version to 2009.
So for you it is a small upgrade for now (2008->2009), but if you wait for version 2010, it will be a large upgrade (2008-2010).
NB : minor updates (2008->2008a) are free for registered users.
