I am a Finale 2007 user. However, I just purchased the 2009 upgrade and I have a few questions before I can get started. First off, I do only guitar notation and when I start up the program, I don't have the option to access the Smart Music Soft Synth system, which has all the instrumentation I need...guitar, manuscript, TAB, etc. The Garritan system does not list what I need, instrument-wise.

Also, when I access the Manual, it goes online. I work offline quite a bit. What happened to the PDF files? They were very useful indeed. Is this available for download?

Thanks.

I haven't tried with 2009, but I did save the 2008 manual pdf to my desktop. Probably still possible with 2009.

In Finale 2009, the Manual is actually not on-line. You access it in a browser because it is now in the html format, not the pdf format anymore.
No need to be on-line, as the files are stored on your hard disk.

And to answer my own question, there is an option to "Create new ensemble," and it's there that I am able to access the Smart Music Soft Synth and gain access to the various guitar staff systems.

In case you rather use a pdf version of the manual, it is available :http://makemusic.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/m ... qid=800&p_
